Word for 2025: Abundance

I started picking a word in 2017 (Generous, Impactful, Powerful, Joyful, Enduring, Expansive) and while I have skipped a few years, this is a habit I value. It’s lovely to look back and see how my thinking has evolved and how I have leaned on these intentions to adapt and grow to what is ahead of me in the year.

It works a LOT better for me than resolutions, I tend to find those stressful.

I picked my word for 2024 early to navigate my Sabbatical, it has helped remind me of my purpose for my unstructured time. It follows that 2025 is going to be a year of new beginnings, and as such a new word is in order.

As we launch into a tumultuous year I am deeply mindful of the stress and emotions that will weigh on me. I am not naive that this will be tough – but I believe that we have a choice, let the tough define us and spiral with overwhelm, OR embrace the tough to build new pathways to progress.

I choose to navigate this year with a possibilities mindset. One that recognizes that in this moment of change we are faced with the gift of abundance. This will be a year of outsized experiences that will create an elevated opportunity for impact. I recognize that this moment will require leadership and agility and I am committed to rise to the occasion.

Times of significant change favor experience AND intellectual curiosity and require much more empathy and humanity. This is going to be a year of growth that will test both our resolve and flexibility. I plan to not just survive this moment, but to use these experiences to continue to learn how to best invent the future.

I invite you to join me in my focus on abundance this year. This is not an easy goal, but I believe that we can do hard things. This is a year for standing up not sitting it out, and recognizing the reality that we are fortunate to live in this time in history.

Where we are today is FAR from perfect (and in many cases it’s quite awful) but whatever comes next, doing our part will matter and it starts with the right mindset. So let’s celebrate the hard and work together. Let’s commit to leverage the abundance for the best benefit of humanity. We will likely fall short, but we will learn and adapt and that will be the foundation of our future.

In another h/t to my lovely friend Thomas Otter I want to leave you with a song that helps remind me of what matters – especially when I’m struggling.

I believe in us
