Word for 2024: Expansive

I promised to share my sabbatical goals and I realized I wanted to ground with a word so I’m creating my 2024 word early.

I feel energized to know I achieved my 2023 intention with room to spare, and have a unique opportunity to open up to new experiences as I live my story.

The gift of unstructured time is one I want to use to the fullest, and of course, that has me thinking about goal setting (I am very aware and deeply comfortable with the irony/paradox of needing goals for unstructured time). #WholeSelf

I’ve settled on a framework with three expansive categories, #rest#growth and #joy.

Rest

The goal of rest will be about recharging. Learning to let go and to build space for new. In the rest category it’s not just naps (but rest assured that will happen) – but all the types of rest (physical, mental, emotional, sensory, creative, social, spiritual).

  • Habits (non-EU timezone wake up, quiet unplugged experiences, new schedules).

  • Boundaries (saying no to say yes).

  • Releasing and letting go.

Growth

Growth for me, is about building new pathways and new skills. These are often micro skills but I find intentional learning and deliberate practice helpful, not just to the thing itself but to how I approach other new things in my life. Building in stretch and having the courage to suck at something new in the service of learning is an important part of this goal.

  • Curiosity and self directed Learning (Reading, Training, Podcasts, Conferences, etc.)

  • Health (Fitness, Medical, Outdoor time, Blue Zone thinking)

Joy

Joy is about building the neural pathways to positivity, creativity and innovation. Expanding my remembering self while and being present for experiencing self moments.

  • Family (structured and unstructured time, connecting with extended family)

  • Ideas (never a better time to be in Silicon Valley and tech)

  • Connection (Finding new points of connection, meeting new people)

  • Travel (Big and small experiences)

Success Criteria

The goal is to expand my capacity, positivity and thinking – releasing some of the cognitive load I carry today to make room for new experiences and new horizons. Connect with others living the Infinite Game and building capacity to step up to living to the fullness of my own potential.

I am excited to see how I do, I am confident that this experience will change me and I’m happy to report I have no idea how – all part of working on my Masterpiece
