Attending TED after just finishing Kara's Burn Book had me reflecting on her comment that everything will be digital. I started keeping a list of the surprising use cases I saw proving her right.
Our Body - the live demonstration of pillbot - swallowing a device in the shape/size of a pill to replace endoscopy or as I understood it - the movie Innerspace. Layer on things like health and fitness tracking and you begin to realize a lot more useful data will be available to monitor and evaluate our bodies.
Methane - there is a new satellite looking at methane leaks
Vertical farming - leveraging data to increase quality and yield.
Philanthropy/Donations
Animals - Butterflies, Fish
This was just the 2024 conference but as you overlay this to Khosla's view of the future you might begin to see why I'm so compelled to think of the future as one that is inherently data driven.
Understanding how to capture and leverage data to make better decisions is the future we need to prepare for now. It's time to add data + storytelling to your personal skills development plan.
I see a future that has us able to inspire and inform like Hans Rosling and a world where we get better at looking for anti-patterns (and trying to avoid too much enshittification) to drive more sustainable and valuable solutions for our future.
